Tales of Arise is the 17th mainline addition to the long-running Tales franchise of JRPGs, although similar to Final Fantasy, most games in the franchise are not connected and can be played independently of each other. The game’s cast is one of its strongest elements, with Tales of Arise’s protagonists featuring Alphen, an amnesiac slave who can’t feel pain, and Shionne, a girl who causes extreme agony to anyone who touches her. The game’s massive world, anime-style design, and deep gameplay all add up to a solid JRPG experience. Currently, Tales of Arise is on sale at $23.00 or 23% off for the PS4, and $29.99 or 21% off for the PS5 edition.
Tales of Arise scored well with critics and is considered by many to be a return to form for the franchise. The combination of high fantasy with a dash of sci-fi makes for some incredible visuals, while the traditional Tales combat system has been refined to make fighting in this world as engaging as it is visually appealing. Players can manually control any member of their party, which usually consists of four characters and two backups, allowing players to choose from a variety of roles and playstyles without being restricted to the main protagonist.
