A set-top box that will be both seen and heard, the Cube joins the existing Fire TV line-up that includes the basic £39.99 (US$39.99) Fire TV Stick and the £49.99 ($49.99) Fire TV Stick 4K.
It is in essence an Echo Dot, Fire TV Stick and multi-directional IR emitter all in one. With eight mics inside it allows you to use your voice for hands-free TV control, as well as completing the sort of tasks for which you might ask Alexa’s assistance, for instance checking the weather, getting the latest news bulletins and interacting with smart home devices.
The Fire TV Cube builds in far-field voice recognition, advanced beamforming tech, a speaker and an LED light bar. Four top-mounted buttons offer volume and mute controls, plus an action button to physically call up Alexa.
There is a bundled second-generation Alexa voice remote, but using Local Voice Control you’ll also be able to talk to Alexa without it as you would on an Echo Dot, and interact with it using a free mobile app.

Announced at IFA 2019, the second-generation Fire TV Cube is now available to buy in the UK, having gone on sale on 10 October 2019.
